Welcome to the website for the Town of Litchfield, Maine. Litchfield is located 16 miles southwest of Augusta in southern Kennebec County. The current estimate of population (in 2010) is 3,624.
Early settlement of the town began before the Revolutionary War and occurred around the ponds, lakes, and streams. In 1793, the Town was organized as a political entity as Smithfield Plantation. In 1795, the Plantation successfully petitioned the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and became incorporated as the Town of Litchfield.

Open Position – Part-time Deputy Clerk
The Town of Litchfield has an opening for the part-time (20 hrs. per week) position of Deputy Clerk. Experience working with the public, a high degree of confidentiality, attention to detail, the ability to work under the pressure of multiple deadlines, and flexibility is necessary. Municipal experience a plus. Experience using Microsoft Office is desired. Salary based on experience. Job descriptions are available at the Town Office during regular business hours.
