DOT Litchfield Project Notices

The Maine DOT is planning two projects in Litchfield:

Project No. 20339.00–Large Culvert Replacement on Rt. 197, located 1.046 miles southerly of the Wales/Litchfield town line; and

Project No. 20479.00–Bridge Substructure Rehabilitation of Wharf Bridge #3329 on the Litchfield/West Gardiner town line carrying Indiana and Dennis Rd. over Cobbossee Stream.

Progress on these projects will be reported here.  In addition, more information about these projects can be viewed on the DOT website (Click on:  Litchfield DOT Projects).

Maine Turnpike Authority Project Notices

The following Maine Turnpike Authority project in Hallowell may impact your travels if you use the Litchfield Road overpass in Hallowell.  Available information indicates the overpass will be closed after the end of school in June until November 2014 in order to replace and increase the height of the bridge there.  You can review additional information, as well as progress reports on the Turnpike website (Click on:  Litchfield Road Overpass).

Spring Road Postings

ALL Litchfield roads are posted at this time.  Any vehicle weighing over 23,000 pounds (GVS [gross vehicle weight]) cannot be driven on them if the temperature is over 32 degrees F. or the road is weeping (moisture can be seen leaking from cracks in the pavement).

The following “state” roads are not posted at this time:  Lewiston RD, Richmond RD, Hallowell RD, Center RD, Plains RD, Hardscrabble RD, and Neck RD.

We are looking at removing road postings on Monday, May 5, 2014; however, if roads dry faster, and temperatures stay above freezing, we will remove the postings earlier….stay tuned!!
