The Litchfield Senior Center is located in the Academy Building next to the Libby Tozier Elementary School.  It’s open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, or when the flag is out, with special events in-between.  The Center opened on October 15, 2004, by the Senior Advisory Committee (a group of 8 that was appointed by the Board of Selectmen on July 1, 2004).

A Director is appointed by the Selectmen to oversee the running of the Center.  The Senior Advisory Committee and several area residents volunteer to help with the Center.  The current Director is Lori Larrabee, who started on October 6, 2025.

Some of the many activities offered include exercise programs, line dancing, crafts, guest speakers, games (cribbage, scrabble, cards, etc.), puzzles, books, book club, knitting, crochet (help learn too!) and sewing classes if requested.  We also celebrate monthly birthdays at potluck luncheons.  In addition, we have some medical equipment to borrow and laptops to use during open hours.

A favorite activity is our Roadrunner trips.  Places visited include museums, historical sites, fairs and boat trips.  We meet in February to select the Roadrunner trips by popular vote.  These will be scheduled with an anticipated start in March.

During the winter months, The Carol Bailey String Band performs Christmas concerts at nursing homes and other facilities.  Our Steppers/Line Dancers also perform at the Litchfield Fair, for nursing homes, and other facilities.

Past events include a luau, costume Halloween parties, picture contest, original hat design, Columbus (Indigenous People’s) Day, Italian dinner, Mardi Gras, Christmas parties, St. Patrick’s Day and others.

The Center has sponsored the AARP safe driving, a 2-day course, and the Matter of Balance, a 6-week course.

We also have guest speakers every 3rd Friday of the month combined with a potluck luncheon, where everyone brings a dish to share.  We celebrate monthly birthdays at this time too.

Stop by the Center and see what a wonderful meeting place Litchfield has to offer our Seniors.  While there, you can pick up a monthly calendar of events.  The monthly calendar is also posted on the bulletin board at the Post Office, the window at the Town Office and in the Town Sodalite.  We also have copies at Amy’s Place, Percy’s Hardware, and the Route 197 Diner.  We are now putting a recipe to share or make on the back of the calendar!

You can also see our calendar and Roadrunner trips on the Town Web Page (www.litchfieldmaine.org).  If we need to make changes in our scheduling, you will see those on the web page calendar, or you can call the Center at 446-6275.

This is a great gathering place to make new friends and old friends….no dues, no fees.
