Select Board Workshops September 28th and 30th:

-The Select Board will have a two-part workshop on Tuesday, September 28th at 1pm in the Town Office conference room:  first to hear from Turnpike engineers about plans to replace the Rt 197 bridge; second to discuss potential changes to the town personnel policy.  Regarding the bridge, it was struck by an in-transit excavator causing extensive damage to the first and last girders (deflected under the middle ones). The bridge was going to be renovated next year, but is now scheduled to be completely replaced in March (provided materials are available). Until then, traffic will remain single lane.

-The Select Board will have a broadband workshop on Thursday, September 30th at 2pm.  The Board will hear a presentation by Red Zone internet providers, followed by general discussion of options to improve internet availability and capability for residents.

Transfer Station Open Friday/Saturday Only- summer hours have ended:

The Transfer Station is open from 8 am to 4 pm Friday and Saturday.  Sunday hours at the Transfer Station are over for the season.

COVID Vaccine Mandate Negative Affects:

The DHHS COVID-19 vaccine mandate for health care workers that was published on August 12th will adversely affect many communities in Maine.  Due to the inclusion of EMS personnel, it affects Litchfield’s Fire Department and if not rescinded or modified, unvaccinated personnel will not be allowed to work in any capacity after October 1st.  Confronting this reality, our Fire Chief has published a letter summing up his concerns, and the Select Board has made a resolution in support of these concerns. These concerns have been sent to the Governor and you may read them yourself on our Resolutions and Correspondence page.

Broadband Survey as noted in the September Sodalite:

Internet Survey Results can be found on the Broadband Committee page.

Whippoorwill Road Work:

The Public Works crew will be working on the Whippoorwill Road for the next three weeks, ditching and tree trimming. As always, please use caution in a work zone. Thank you in advance.

Restore Sea-run Alewife fish capability to Cobbossee Stream. Good, bad, neutral?

The Department of Marine Resources is desiring to restore sea-run Alewives access to Cobbossee Stream. This one page summary  from the Cobbossee Watershed District provides some background on their perspective.  An alternate view is offered by non-profit Upstream Cobbossee here. If you are interested in finding out more, call the Town Office (268-4721) and we’ll provide you a point of contact for either side of the issue.

Transfer Station Passes Available at the Transfer Station:

All Litchfield residents/property owners are required to have a yellow Transfer Station sticker to use the transfer station.  This sticker replaces the old blue one and must be attached to the lower right (passenger side) windshield.  Stickers may be picked up free of charge at the Transfer Station for each of your registered vehicles (show your registration).
