Affordability Payment Program:

💵 Could You Qualify for Maine’s $300 Affordability Payment?

The State of Maine is providing a one-time $300 Affordability Payment to help eligible residents with the rising cost of everyday necessities.

You may qualify if you:
✔️ Filed (or file) a 2025 Maine individual income tax return as a full-year Maine resident by October 15, 2026
✔️ Had a 2025 federal adjusted gross income of less than:
• $100,000 – Married Filing Jointly or Qualifying Surviving Spouse
• $75,000 – Head of Household
• $50,000 – Single or Married Filing Separately
✔️ Cannot be claimed as a dependent on another person’s 2025 tax return

⚠️ Haven’t filed your 2025 tax return yet? You must file by October 15, 2026 to be considered for the payment—even if your income is low enough that you normally wouldn’t be required to file a tax return.

📬 If you filed your 2025 Maine tax return by July 1, 2026, payments will generally begin arriving by July 31, 2026. Eligible residents who file after July 1, but by October 15, may receive their payment during a later distribution.

Good to know: Receiving this payment will not affect your eligibility for Municipal General Assistance.

Road Closure Notice — Dennis Hill Road, beginning Monday July 13th:

Transfer Station:

Hours: Fridays and Saturdays 8:00 am – 4:00 pm. (And Sundays between May 1st and September 31st)

Leaf and Brush Pile: The leaf and brush pile will open for the season on May 1st, 2026 – weather permitting. (Once the leaf and brush pile is closed for the winter, Oldcastle Lawn & Garden North, Inc. located at 481 Springwater Road in Poland, ME accepts brush year round.)

Swap Shop: The Swap Shop opened for the season on April 17, 2026. It is open April through September, weather permitting, Fridays, Saturdays (and Sundays with the Transfer Station summer schedule) from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm, and staffed by volunteers. Drop off closes two weeks prior to closing of the Swap Shop.

Transfer Station Passes Available at the Transfer Station:

All Litchfield residents/property owners are required to have a yellow Transfer Station sticker to use the transfer station. This sticker replaces the old blue one and must be attached to the lower right (passenger side) windshield. Stickers may be picked up free of charge at the Transfer Station for each of your registered vehicles (show your registration).
